Comments: Scientific Paranormal was called in to investigate an old military barracks that served as a crucial station point during the War of 1812. The US Navy built a shipyard in this area and decided that the Sackets Harbor unique position near the water would be an ideal defensive and supply location. During the War of 1812, Madison Barracks had fought off around five British Ships, with thousands of troops being stationed there. During the Battle of Sackett's Harbor, in May 1813, the British succeeded in landing and attacking the area, but was repelled by American forces. As the war ended, Madison Barracks still served a unique role during future wars, as it was used for military training, hospitals, resource trading post, and other such uses.

Some major claims in this area included people hearing voices, being pushed down stairs, electric appliances being turned on and off at will, footsteps and other miscellaneous sounds, and the occasional shadow figure. This was Scientific Paranormal's first military installation case, and as such, was one of the largest area-sized cases undertaken. To that end, we pulled out all the stops and brought along more than half of our staff, multiple digital recorders, multiple video camcorders, the DVR system, and just about every type of equipment on hand. Our primary concern was to be able to de-bunk many of the claims of activity, and this is where we began our investigation.

We were somewhat able to de-bunk electric appliance activity, as we found the main building in which we were stationed at had some faulty wiring, poor circuit boards, and an overgrowth of dust. Breaking off into two teams, we had one team investigate the main building, serving as an old military headquarters, and another team going into the field where the Sackets Harbor battle was fought. The field team had indeed found a mass grave of over 200 people who had died at the battle, which was recently unearthed in the late 80's. The area was marked by a grave-marker, but was not publicly known as such. Additional interesting properties was old underground tunnels which were most likely used for supply tunnels during the battle, some of which led directly into the water. Other tunnels were camouflaged into nearby brush as used for sniper type fire. We attempted to de-bunk the falling of the stairs in a building that was supposedly used by General Grant. No such activity took place, but we did not of some steep staircases that could cause mis-footing.

Excitement rose as some personal activity did occur with rushes of cold air in primarily warm rooms, as well as some footstep sounds and noises. The team was extremely excited when one member noted a human-like shape appearing out of the wall and walking down in a huge gym-like area. Unfortunately, upon further analysis later that week, we learned that the human-like shape was a complex light-reflection from a passing car. (Posted in de-bunked video evidence soon). After further analysis, we did catch a few interesting pieces of audio that have been posted, which can be identified as at least two or more separate voices, both male and female. The voices seem to be intelligent, as some are direct responses to questions.

MiniDV and DVR video, while still being heavily analyzed by the team, has not currently picked up anything out of the ordinary, other than the de-bunked footage. Even so, combined with our personal experiences and audio data, we would have to say that Madison Barracks MAY contain some sort of paranormal activity. This is not a definite yes though, as we are going to need to return at a later date to gather more data for an answer. This area is extremely historical to New York State, and should be noted as being a great site for any history buff.

Comments: The team had the opportunity to return to a case completed last year, Madison Barracks. This time around, we were able to investigate more buildings and cover more ground, enabling us to complete a much more thorough investigation. As mentioned from the case of last year, Madison Barracks was a military training base for soldiers that served in key points in history, most notably during the War of 1812 when British soldiers invaded the area from Sackets Harbor. The Barracks now contains original buildings used by the US military such as Mess Halls, commander headquarters, former theaters, etc.

The primary advantage of this case allowed us to hard-wire two buildings with DVR cameras than the single building used last time. Unfortunately, only the main building used last time had power and was kept in normal conditions. The other building wired was dilapidated and had no power going to it. In order to solve this problem, we used a solution where multiple power cords were strung between buildings to grant our cameras access to power. Another building of interest, the old Mess Hall, was too far away to be completely wired by DVR cameras.

During the investigation, many investigators reported unusual occurrences in many of the buildings. One building that contained cameras but was under repair had odd metal type clanking noises and possible footstep type noises without any source. Investigators went to determine the source, but were unable to. Other sounds occurred in the basement of the main building where sounds of objects dropping were heard. The most unusual building researched was the Mess Hall. This also was under repair and had many loose floorboards. Many sounds were heard here such as objects moving and metal clanking. Audio's continued to record these noises, but minimal video coverage in this area prevented us from finding the source. Some audio clips may point to animal contamination such as Raccoons where sharp "chirping" noises were heard. Since some of these buildings have loose walls where animals could easily enter, it is a high probability that this is what was causing the majority of the noise.

Still, with our ability to debunk a large number of areas, our data still turned up some interesting finds. The main building still had a claim of a woman or women who were heard and possibly worked there over a hundred years ago. Similar to last case, our audio's did capture a possible female voice that may say the words "Help Me". Other slight female noises were heard across the building, while many others were debunked due to the high amount of noise contamination that reverberated through the buildings to the open ended entries to areas.

All in all, our second investigation of this area proved to be as fulfilling as the first. Many claims to debunk, but also many claims to support. There are still many more buildings in this area that need investigating, so a full-scale investigation of this place would require many TAPS Family groups working cooperatively together. We would be extremely interested in returning to this place at a later date.
